Peripheral Sensor Interface 5

PSI5 (Peripheral Sensor Interface 5) is a digital interface for sensors.

PSI5 based on a two-wire cable and is used in the automotive electronics for the connection of outsourced sensors for electronic control units. It supports point-to -point and bus configurations with asynchronous and synchronous communication.

Function

PSI5 operates according to the principle of the current interface with the modulation of a transmit flow of data transmission on the supply line. The relatively high signal current of 26 mA and the Bit coding in Manchester code high noise immunity is achieved, whereby the use of a low-cost, twisted -pair cable for wiring is sufficient. Data words each consist of two start bits, data bits, and 8 to 24 a parity bit or 3-bit CRC ( Cyclic Redundancy Check).

Standardization

With the goal of an open standard went PSI5 from existing, proprietary developments out of Autoliv, Bosch and Continental firms. A first joint publication was part of the " sensor " fair in Nuremberg in May 2005. Received assistance standardization in the summer of 2006 by Siemens VDO and since 2007 through Freescale and TRW.
