Features

Butterfly

The wingspan of the butterfly is 22 to 26 millimeters. The ground color of the forewings varies from almost white to gray. In areas with bright Jurassic rocks occur on very light-colored specimens, while specimens from the Alps, which occur in areas with dark silicate rock are then dyed darker. Since the butterflies like to rest on rocks, they are protected to the same colored background visually well from enemies. The root field of the forewings is gray -brown. Suited the apex region and a small box in the middle of the front edge are created. Large parts of the central panel are lighter in color, as well as a narrow band behind the root area, and the post Disk Alber calibration. In the direction of the outer edge brownish wavy lines are visible. In Saumfeld is a whitish wavy line. Front and rear wings each show a black Diskalfleck which is sometimes indistinct. The hind wings have a whitish color.

Caterpillar

Adults caterpillars are brightly colored reddish, show striking point warts and are covered with short and thin.

Doll

The red-yellow doll is short and stocky. The cremaster is small, spherical, and provided with two end bristles.

Similar Species

In the Alps, the sister species Perizoma juracolaria occurs, which can be distinguished from Perizoma obsoletata by a genitalmorphologische investigation.

Geographical distribution and occurrence

The Enzian capsule tensioner is in the Pyrenees, the Massif Central, the Apennines, in Corsica, in the Alps and Pre-Alps, the Swiss Jura, the Black Forest, the Swabian Alb, the Sudetes, the Tatra Mountains, the Carpathians and the mountains of the Balkan Peninsula to find. In the Alps it occurs at altitudes of 900-3000 meters. The species prefers inhabited barren mountains and mountain ranges, such as stony lean lawns, rock corridors, scree slopes and talus slopes.

Way of life

The moths fly in one generation from June to August and visit like artificial light sources. The females lay eggs in the ovary or the petals of a forage crop. During the months of August and September, the caterpillars are found. They burrow into the fruit capsules and feed on the seeds of various gentians (Gentiana ). These include:

  • Yellow gentian (Gentiana lutea),
  • Dot - gentian ( Gentiana punctata )
  • Eastern Alps gentian (Gentiana pannonica )
  • Purple gentian (Gentiana purpurea )
  • Willow Gentian (Gentiana asclepiadea ).

The fully grown caterpillars leave the bursting seed pods and pupate in a slight cocoon on the ground. The species overwinters as a pupa.

Endangering

The Enzian capsule tensioner comes in Germany in Bavaria area as numerous before and is out there on the red list of threatened species as not at risk. In Baden- Württemberg, however, he is at risk.

Subspecies

  • Perizoma obsoletata obsoletata
  • Perizoma obsoletata avilaria

System

In 2005 Perizoma juracolaria by Bérard et al. separated from Perizoma obsoletata. 2009 Leraut has the two species performed as Perizoma obsoletata and Perizoma alpicolaria and the latter ssp. reisseri affiliated. For the taxonomy of the species mentioned above further investigation and confirmation should be performed.
