Perkow reaction

The Perkow reaction is a reaction name in the field of organic chemistry, named after the German chemist Werner Perkow (1915-1994) is named. It is used for converting ketones which are substituted in the α - position with leaving groups with the help of phosphites to vinyl phosphates.

Reaction mechanism

For the Perkow many different reaction mechanisms are proposed. The presented mechanism comes from the book " Comprehensive Organic Name Reactions and Reagents " by Daniel Zerong Wang. In the first step, the phosphite is engaged with the carbonyl group. This is followed by a rearrangement of the phosphorus group, so that finally the desired vinyl phosphate is released.
