Perrysburg is a city in Wood County in the U.S. state of Ohio, along the Maumee River near Toledo.

History

The city's history begins with the establishment of Fort Meigs under General William Henry Harrison. Harrison had been adjutant under General Anthony Wayne, who had further built from 1793 to 1794 in southern Ohio Fort Greenville. Fort Meigs was built during the clashes with the British and the Indian tribes under Tecumseh in the British -American War. It was named after the then Governor of Ohio, Return Jonathan Meigs.

The location of Fort Meigs on a rock overlooking the Maumee River seemed cheap, which is also confirmed in two clashes with the British at the fort. The plans were designed by the army engineer Captain Eleazer D. Wood, after the county was named to the Fort Wood County.

Early settlers who had fled to the area of Huron before the war, returned to the protection of the fort and settled on the plain before Fort Meigs. Perrysburg in 1816 measured and planned. The city is proud that in addition to Washington, DC is the only one that has been planned by the federal government. She soon became a center of shipbuilding and trade.

When in the summer of 1854 an epidemic of cholera broke out had to be evacuated for two months the city. 100 people died of the disease
