Peruman railway accident

In the railway accident at Ashtamudisee derailed on July 8, 1988, a bridge over the Ashtamudisee, Kerala, India, a train. 10 cars plunged into the lake, 105 people died.

Starting position

Circumstances of the accident

The circumstances of the accident remained controversial. It is certain that the train derailed against 13:15 clock and 10 cars plunged into the lake. It was officially reported as a cause of accidents that the tornado threw the train off the tracks. It remained unclear, however, whether the train derailed and crashed while partially destroyed the bridge or whether the bridge collapsed under the train and the train derailed therefore.

105 people died and another 200 were seriously injured. The bridge was then destroyed. A new railway bridge was built. The old one was left as a memorial at the accident in situ.
