Peruvian Navy

The Peruvian Navy (Spanish: Marina de Guerra del Perú ) is part of the Peruvian armed forces. In her serve around 25,000 soldiers, including 4,000 Marines.

Flagship of the Navy since May 23, 1973, built in the Netherlands cruiser Almirante Grau with a length of 182 meters, a weight of over 12,000 tons and a crew of 650.

Organization and Leadership

Commander of the Peruvian Navy has since December 29, 2007 Admiral Carlos Gamarra Elias. The Peruvian Navy is subordinate to the Defense Minister and ultimately the Peruvian president as commander in chief of the Peruvian armed forces.

History

The Peruvian Navy was officially established in October 1821. First fleet commander was Jorge Martin Guise. The first Peruvian warship was the Sacramento.

Navy Day

By law (ley ) 102526 dated 6 October 1945, October 8, the day the Battle of Angamos and the Miguel Grau Seminario death, declared the day of the Navy.
