Pet Rock

Pet Rocks (English pet, pet '; rock, stone ', ' rock ') were a successful fad of the 1970s, which was launched by Gary Dahl in Los Gatos, California in 1975.

The first Pet Rocks were gray pebbles that had been bought in a hardware store and were marketed in a cardboard box with air holes, as if they were pets. In a few months one million Pet Rocks were sold, making Gary Dahl became a millionaire.
