Pete "El Conde" Rodríguez

Pete " El Conde " Rodríguez Rodríguez ( born January 31, 1932 in Ponce / Puerto Rico; † 2 December 2000), actually Pedro Juan Rodriguez Ferrer, was a Puerto Rican salsa musician.

Career

Pete Rodriguez started at the age of five years playing the bongos and later joined local bands in Ponce. In the 1950s, his family emigrated to the Bronx / New York City. During his appearances in the local bars, he met Johnny Pacheco know and took with him 1963, the album " Suavecito " on.

In 1964, Pacheco and his lawyer Jerry Masucci, the legendary salsa group Fania All-Stars, Pete Rodriguez appeared on the album " Cañonazo " with. Between 1964 and 1973 took Pacheco and Rodriguez the albums " La Perfecta Combination Nacion (1970), " Los Compadres "(1971 ) and " Tres De Cafe Y Dos De Azucar " (1973) on. 1974 left Rodriguez, the Fania All-Stars, and made as a solo artist career. the first solo album El Conde in 1974 he won a prize. followed in 1976 " Este Negro Si It sat Sabroso " with the hit" Catalina La O ", which was voted ninth best salsa album of its time.
