Péter Bácsi

Péter Bácsi ( born May 15, 1983 in Budapest) is a Hungarian wrestler. He was European champion in 2008. Bácsi wrestles with the German Bundesliga RWG Moembris -Königshofen in Greco-Roman wrestling in the weight category to 74 kg.

His first major international tournament played the Hungarian 2002 Yugoslav Subotica. In the Junior European Championships, he finished 9th place. In 2005 he competed at the World University Championships for the first time in the seniors. Bácsi ended the tournament as the fifth. The Wrestling World Championships 2007 in Baku, he fought his way to the 7th Place. He defeated first Sixto Barrera, Peru, Daulet Kadyrov from Turkmenistan and Tsukasa Tsurumaki from Japan and then failed with 5:8 to Julian Kwit from Poland. At the European Championships in Tampere, Finland a year later he started with wins over Edgar Babayan from Armenia and the Finn Valtteri Moisio. Finally, he defeated even the Frenchman Christophe Guénot and in the finale the Turks Seref Tüfenk 3-1.

At the Olympic Games in Beijing Bácsi started with three wins and only lost in the fourth round to eventual Olympic champion Manuchar Kwirkwelia from Georgia. In the battle for bronze he had a rematch defeat against Frenchman Guenot accept, which was still inferior to the European Championships in Tampere Bácsi.

  • 2008, 2nd place, World Cup in Szombathely, GR, to 74 kg behind Park Jin -sung, South Korea
  • 2008, 1st place European Championships in Tampere, GR, to 74 kg after beating Edgar Babayan, Armenia, Valtteri Moisio, Finland, Christophe Guénot, France and Seref Tüfenk, Turkey
  • 2008, 5th place, OS in Beijing, GR, to 74 kg after beating Thomas Dantzler, USA, arsenic Jufalakjan, Armenia and Warteres Samurgaschew, Russia and defeats Manuchar Kwirkwelia, Georgia and Christophe Guénot
