Peter Berresford Ellis

Peter Tremayne is the pseudonym of British historian Peter Berresford Ellis ( born March 10, 1943 in Coventry). Under this pseudonym he published crime novels about living in the 7th century Irish nun and lawyer Fidelma.

As to his ancestors and relatives also included Irish, Scottish, Welsh and British uncles and aunts, he began to be interested in Celtic history. After studying Celtic Studies ( BA degree and Master), he then turned to journalism, however. His first book Wales - A Nation Again about the Welsh struggle for independence appeared in 1968 in the aftermath he began against the background of his studies to write popular science books about the Celts. . This - and especially the successful Sister Fidelma novel series - earned him the honor as a member of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland and the Royal Historical Society.

The pseudonym Peter Tremayne was created to avoid a confusion of similar names, as Peter Beresford Ellis 1977 should write a review for the first Cadfael novel by Ellis Peters. At Tremayne is the name of one of his favorite places in Cornwall.
