Peter Daniel (footballer born 1946)

Peter Aylmer Daniel (born 22 December 1946 in Ripley ) is a former English footballer. The defender stood for many years at Derby County under contract. His achievements were overshadowed by those of his teammates due to his mostly uneventful and safe investment style of play and often it was a long time in the reserve team active before becoming successful in the season 1974/75 the long-term injured Roy McFarland represented and won the English championship.

Sports career

In August 1963, the 16- year-old Peter Daniel joined Derby County. In the trained then by Tim Ward second division, he signed a year later in December 1964 the first professional contract. He was one of a number of promising talents in the era of Ward and after his debut in the October 2, 1965 against Bristol City ( 2-1 ), it developed as a full-back first-team regular. When the " Rams" but then crashed in the season 1966/67, to 17th place, Ward was dismissed and under the successor of Brian Clough led to far-reaching changes squad. Daniel was only one of five players with whom Clough nor long-term planning in Derby, but he was pushed more and more into the replacement player and reserve team role since October 1967. Daniel moved in the spring of 1979 in the North American NASL to the Vancouver Whitecaps. There he had already played in the previous year on loan and the second championship round ended by winning the NASL Soccer Bowl. He then returned to the English home and played from March, 1980 to Burton Albion in the Northern Premier League, as from October 1980 Belper Town in the Midland League.
