" Day after day, good day "

1972 saw a first single image of a glass of water. First, he wanted to paint only five or six pictures of this water glass, "to show that it is not necessary to change the subject to be encouraged to paint ." He then has not been able to stop since 1974 and created so every year at least 50, at most 99 images showing an empty water glass on a white table surface in front of white background. The painted picture is 1:1 to the object. The external conditions, such as lighting, distance, image size remain unchanged. All images are in the format 25 x 20 cm and are painted with oil paint on canvas.

Since 1974 until now (2011) about 5000 images of the series "Day to day good day " I and II have been created, of which approximately 2500 Series I " The glass at night," 2500 Series II " The glass in day ".

Another series also began in 1972: " Beautiful day in the Black Forest ". The twelve-part images consist of three mutually on the same day painted local landscapes, which continue in the horizontal plane on three other boards, each field in the format 24 x 33 cm.

The facade of the University Library Freiburg, he designed 1978 by a series of self-portraits. They should be put back inside after completion of the new UB.

In addition to the well-known series "Day to day good day " Peter Dreher's oeuvre extremely complex and provides a unique approach to the medium of painting dar. at the interface between an almost ald- realistic style of painting and conceptual art positioned, it brings a large range of motives on the canvas, which includes both flower pieces, keys or puppet - images as well as large-scale, multi-part interior.

His works can be compared to the contemplative still life Giorgio Morandi. His images are often represented in exhibitions that dealt with the subject of "time", where they will be shown in connection with works by artists such as On Kawara or Roman Opałka.

Peter Dreher is not only one of Germany's most important post-war artists, he also practiced as a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe and Freiburg a strong influence on younger artists such as Anselm Kiefer.
