Peter Kaplony

Peter Arpad Kaplony ( born June 15, 1933, Budapest, † 11 February, 2011 Zurich, home justified ) was a Swiss egyptologist.

Kaplony, son of a career officer, was released in December 1944 in Switzerland and received in 1958 the Swiss citizenship. He studied Ancient History, Egyptology and Arabic language and literature at the Universities of Zurich and Basel. In 1959 he received his doctorate in Zurich, 1964, there habilitation. From 1970 until his retirement in 2000 he was assistant professor of Egyptology at the Oriental Institute of the University of Zurich.

• The inscriptions of the Egyptian early period. 4 volumes, Harrassowitz, Wiesbaden 1963 to 1964 ( = dissertation).
• The cylinder seals of the Old Kingdom. 2 volumes, La Fondation Reine Élisabeth Égyptologique, Brussels from 1977 to 1981.
