Peter Knäbel

Peter Knäbel ( born October 2, 1966 in Witten ) is a former German football player and coach. He is currently working as technical director of the Swiss national soccer team.

Career

As a teenager, played the native Witten Peter Knäbel at Borussia Dortmund ( 1974-1979 ) and from 1979 at VfL Bochum. Later he moved on to the amateur team and came on September 15, 1984, to a commitment to the professional team in the Bundesliga, where he also scored his first Profitor. Until his second league game he had to wait almost two years, but then came across the season 1986/87 frequently used. In 1988, he reached with VfL the DFB Cup final, where they lost Eintracht Frankfurt 0-1 gates. Knäbel did not play in this game.

In 1988 he moved to FC St. Pauli. The club had just risen from the second division and reached in 1989 with a 10th place relatively confident in the league. After descending 1991 ( lost Relegation against Stuttgarter Kickers ) Knäbel play two more years in the Bundesliga House with the hamburgers before he transferred to 1 FC Saarbrücken in 1993. In St. Pauli, he was most of the time a regular player, but had to struggle with injuries. The five years at FC St. Pauli designated Knäbel later as his " by far hottest time as a professional ." Occasionally, he also plays for the Millertor Self tradition, most recently in May 2010 during the centennial anniversary club.

When 1.FC Saarbrücken, he came under coach Fritz Fuchs 19 times in the 2nd Bundesliga, scoring three goals. In 1994 he went to TSV 1860 Munich, who just had a walkover by Bayern League in the Bundesliga behind. After only two Bundesliga games for the "Lions" Knäbel moved in winter on loan to Switzerland for FC St. Gallen. At the end of the season, the Swiss did not set out the agreed purchase option and Knäbel then moved to 1.FC Nürnberg. Here he trained alongside his work as a player and youth teams of the FCN. While Knäbel regulars was in the first two seasons at the " Club " he was during the 1997/98 season after Felix Magath Willi Entenmann had replaced as coach, sorted out.

After the season, which ended with the rise of FCN in the Bundesliga, he joined forces with the Association search and signed a contract with the Swiss third division side FC Winterthur, where he acted until 2000 as a player-coach. From 2000 to 2003 he was Manager, as well as youth and amateur coordinator of FCW and still the same player. In 2003 he finished his playing career and was technical director at FC Basel. In 2006 he moved to FC Basel and the activity was junior boss. Since September 2009 he is technical director of the Swiss national team.
