Peter Kohnke

Peter Kohnke ( born October 9, 1941 in Königsberg, † April 3, 1975 in Bremervörde ) was a German sports shooter and Olympic champion.

Kohnke was at age 16 in Moscow Junior World Champion in the small-bore three position. In 1959 he became vice European champion in prone with a small-caliber rifle in Milan. At 18, he won the Olympic gold medal in prone at the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960. With 590 rings he had a ring ahead of the Americans James Hill.

Kohnke came in 1945 with his parents to Bremervörde. He stepped to the Schützengesellschaft to Bremervörde, where he trained together with Bernd Klingner. Kling former Olympic gold medal in 1968 in Three Positions also Kohnke was once again in a Olympic final and was with six rings behind Klingner Olympic seventh.

After training as a draftsman Peter Kohnke was followed by a study and was a civil engineer. In 1975, he died in a traffic accident.
