Peter Quillin ( born June 22, 1983 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American professional boxer and current world champion of the WBO middleweight. He is by Stanley Ketchel, Tony Tucker, Roger Mayweather and Floyd Mayweather, already the fifth world boxing champion from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Quillin is at Golden Boy Promotions of Oscar de la Hoya under contract and is run by legendary trainer Freddie Roach.
Career
Peter Quillin is the son of a Cuban and an African American. He is born in Chicago, but then grew up in Grand Rapids. At the age of 15, he began boxing and played only 15 amateur fights before he Promoter Cedric Kushner became a professional in 2005 and was initially trained by Colin Morgan. His fight name Kid Chocolate is selected based on the legendary Cuban boxer Eligio Montalvo. He lives and trains in New York City.
After 23 won fights, including against Alexander Quiroz ( 13-4), Troy Lowry ( 27-7 ), Thomas Brown ( 11-3 ), Antwun Echols ( 31-7 ), Dionisio Miranda ( 18-2) and Fernando Zúñiga ( 28-9 ), it was on 29th April 2011 with a TKO win in round 3 against Jesse Brinkley ( 35-6 ), American champion in the super middleweight division.
On July 23, 2011, he defeat in Las Vegas Jason LeHoullier ( 21-5 ) by TKO in round 5 and November 5, Craig McEwan (19-1 ) in Mexico by TKO in round 6 On 2 June 2012, he met in California on the multiple world champion Ronald Wright ( 51-5 ) and defeated this unanimous decision, he also had Wright in the fifth round on the ground.
Due to his previous successes he received on October 20, 2012 in Brooklyn, the shot at the world - belt of WBO middleweight against the undefeated, reigning champion Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam ( 27-0 ) from France. This he had six times on the ground and won clearly on points. His first title defense he played on April 27, 2013 in Brooklyn against Fernando Guerrero ( 25-1 ) and won by unanimous decision. He also had his opponent four times on the ground.
On 26 October 2013, won early against Gabriel Rosado ( 21-6 ).
