Peter Rost (handballer)

Peter Rost ( born June 29, 1951 in Leipzig ) is a German handball player, coach and functionary. His greatest achievement was winning the Olympic gold medal as captain and playmaker choosing the GDR in 1980 in Moscow.

Career

In youth rust played the BSG Leipzig West and 1966 Spartakiadesieger with the Leipzig district selection. He was also a GDR youth champion in 1970 with the SC Leipzig. He played from 1970 to 1984 at SC Leipzig and in 1972, 1976 and 1979 East German champion.

Overall, Peter Rost was 216- times used internationally in the GDR - selector, by scoring 339 goals. In the Men's Handball World Championship 1974, he became vice - world champion and 1980 Olympic champion, both as captain of each selection. For his athletic achievements, he was in 1980 awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver and 1984 gold.
