Peter Zeitlinger
Peter Zeitlinger ( born June 6, 1960 in Prague) is an Austrian cinematographer and filmmaker. He received international attention by the Oscar - nominated film Encounters at the End of the World, which was in Antarctica filmed in two-man team with Werner Herzog.
Life and work
Peter Zeitlinger first inspirations for movies came from Michael Snow and Peter Kubelka. Zeitlinger studied in Vienna camera and editing at the Film Academy and Ethics at the Faculty of philosophy at Johann Mader. Later teachers were Vittorio Storaro, Sven Nykvist, Vilmos Zsigmond and. In Internships he was lighting, second unit and Action Camera with David Watkin. Writing screenplays, he studied with Robert Kee Mac and Syd Field.
Zeitlinger was discovered as a cameraman shortly after finishing his studies by Werner Herzog. Their joint collaboration has produced numerous film works that global recognition.
In his Viennese creative period (1989-1994) Peter Zeitlinger collaborated with Götz Spielmann, Ulrich Seidl and Erhard Riedlsperger. In the Berlin period (1995-2001), he worked with the TV Starr director Werner Masten and became the main camera man by Werner Herzog.
Since 2004 led U.S. productions in Los Angeles, New York and New Orleans International to success. In the Film Festival in Venice 2009, two films were also nominated for the Golden Lion, the Zeitlinger had photographed. Filmed in 3D film Cave of Forgotten Dreams in the U.S. was the most successful non-fiction film of the year 2011.
Since 2011 Zeitlinger is a professor at the University of Television and Film Munich. The Romy Awards 2007, he was for Best Cinematography for The Dream Hotel - excellent Africa. The second Romy and the German Camera Award he received in 2012 for Keeps track of the small tools.
