The racing event

The race was first held on 10 October 1998 as a race in the IMSA series. Since 1999, it counted for the American Le Mans Series. It is carried out according to the rules for the 24 Hours of Le Mans of the Automobile Club de l' Ouest (ACO ), which also can be modified, however slightly, to allow for the launch other vehicles. The race distance is 1000 miles, or 10 hours, whichever is reached first. In all sweeps until 2008 the winning team could travel 1000 miles so far.

2009, the race was, however, paused by heavy rain after 4.5 hours initially and later stopped completely. In addition to overall victory is fought in different classes in each case to the class wins. 2011, these were the three prototype classes, LMP1, LMP2 and LMPC and the three GT classes GT, GTE and GTC AM. The winners of the classes will be held at Le Mans, are automatically invited to next year's 24 -hour race in Le Mans.
