Petit-Montrouge

Quartier du Petit -Montrouge is a neighborhood of Paris. It is since 1860 that 55 of the 80 district of the city and part of the 14th arrondissement. Named after one of the main streets and quarters Alesia district originally belonged to the municipality of Montrouge just south of the city limits.

Location

Petit -Montrouge is limited by the Rue de la Tombe - Issoire and Rue Emile Faguet in the east, Boulevard Romain Rolland in the south, Avenue de la Porte de Châtillon, the Rue des Plantes and Rue Gassendi in the west, and the Rue Daguerre and the Boulevard Saint -Jacques in the north. The neighboring districts are the Quartier du Parc de Montsouris, in the west the Quartier de Plaisance and in the north the Quartier du Montparnasse in the east. South borders the municipality of Mont Rouge at Petit -Montrouge.

History

On today's Place Hélène et Victor Basch (also known as Carrefour Alesia ) there was the crossing of the old trade routes from Paris to Chartres and Orléans. Here was a small shaped by farming settlement, which belonged to the municipality of Mont Rouge and Petit -Montrouge was called. 1836 founded here the Abbé Migne Jacques Paul Migne called his publishing house for religious works. Center of Petit -Montrouge was built in 1838 Chapel Saint Pierre, who was standing in the area between the present Rue Thibaud and the Passage Rimbaud. 1860 was the incorporation of Petit -Montrouge in the newly created 14th district of Paris. In the following years, the district has developed into a working-class neighborhood where settled smaller craft and commercial establishments. Since the 1960s, the neighborhood turns into a preferred residential area of the middle class.
