Petit (Portuguese footballer)

Petit ( [ pɯti ]; actually Armando Gonçalves Teixeira, born September 25, 1976 in Strasbourg, France ) is a former Portuguese football player and current coach.

He was born as the son of Portuguese parents. His nickname Petit he received as a teenager due to his small stature and as a reference to his French birthplace. In the Portuguese fans, he is also called pitbull because of its body-hugging, snappy style of play. Petit is known for its high hit rate by direct free-kicks and his above-average fit.

Career

Association

After working in the Portuguese lower leagues Petit began his career as a professional at Gil Vicente FC, ​​where he quickly became a key player. He then moved to Boavista Porto, with the team he first Portuguese champions in 2001.

He was bound by Benfica in 2002 and 2004 brought the Portuguese Cup and in 2005 his second championship. After impressive performances in the Champions League season 2005/ 06 Petit received offers from Manchester United and Lyon. National

On June 2, 2001 Petit was in the qualifier for the 2002 World Cup against Ireland his debut in the Portuguese national selection. With the national team, he was Vice-European Champion at the 2004 European Championships in their own country and took part in the 2006 World Cup and at the 2008 European Championships.
