Petre Becheru

Petre Becheru ( born May 16, 1960 in Draganesti - Vlasca, county Teleorman ) is a former Romanian weightlifter.

Sporting career

Becherus first international competition was the World Championships in Moscow in 1983, where he started in the light heavy weight to 82.5 kg. In tearing, he finished with 155.0 kg in 9th place in pushing it remained unplaced. The winner was Jurik Wardanjan with 392.5 kg ( 180.0 / 212.5 kg ), before Assen Slatew with 390.0 kg in the total.

With the Olympic boycott the eastern states many medal favorites participation was prohibited in Los Angeles in 1984, which is why Becheru already won with a capacity of 355.0 kg ( 155.0 / 200.0 kg ) of gold in its class to 82.5 kg. With this performance, he would have occupied the 9th place in the 1983 World Cup. It was in 1984 ie a relatively weak field of participants. The 1986 World Cup in Ostrava, he finished with 362.5 kg in sixth and his last World Cup in 1989 in Athens with 347.5 kg in ninth. In 1987, he won the European Championships in Reims with 367.5 kg ( 160.0 / 207.5 kg ) bronze in single combat.
