Petrești, Satu Mare
Petri box (Romanian Petreşti, Hungarian Mezőpetri ) is a municipality in the district of Satu Mare in northwest Romania.
History
Petri field was first mentioned in 1316 as Mezeu Petri documented. In the year 1740 were German settlers - called Satu Mare Swabians - down in the village.
Population
The 2011 census revealed the following ethnic composition of the population of Petri box ( from a total of 1570 villagers ):
- 438 German
- 751 Magyars
- 200 Romanians
- 171 Roma
Local Politics
In the local elections of June 2012 Mayor of the Town Georg Otto Marchis was re-elected from the Democratic Forum of Germans in Romania. The Council of the Municipality has 11 councilors; ten of the UDMR and a member of the social-liberal coalition USL.
