Petteri Lehto

Petteri Lehto ( born March 13, 1961 in Turku ) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey player who played in his playing days from 1978 to 1990 among others for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League. His brother Joni was also a professional hockey player.

Career

Petteri Lehto began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior section of TPS Turku, for his first team, he made his debut in the SM- liiga in the playoffs of the 1978/79 season. He then played one year for the Canadian junior team Melville Millionaires in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. Then the defender returned to Finland, where he ever was a year for his hometown club TPS Turku and Rauma Lukko in the SM- liiga on the ice. From 1982 to 1984 he ran again for TPS Turku, where he came in the 1983/84 season in parallel with some inserts for the Finnish national team, which took in preparation for the Olympic Games in Sarajevo in the SM- liiga.

In July 1984, Lehto signed a contract as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Penguins, for in the National Hockey League he was in the 1984/85 season in six games on the ice. The majority of the playing time he spent, however, in their farm team in Baltimore Skipjacks of the American Hockey League. From 1985 to 1987, the links Sagittarius played again for TPS Turku, before he joined the league rivals KalPa Kuopio for the 1987/88 season. In the seasons 1988/89 and 1989/90 he was with TPS Turku each Finnish Champion. He then finished his career at the age of 29 years.

Internationally

For Finland Lehto took part in the junior level at the U18 European Junior Championships in 1979. at senior level he was in the squad of his country at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, where he scored two goals in six games each and two assists.
