Pettneu am Arlberg

Pettneu is a municipality with 1447 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the Landeck district in Tyrol ( Austria ). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Landeck.

Geographical Location

Pettneu lies in the valley between Landeck and punch the Arlberg. The municipality comprises the main town Pettneu and the eastern city Schnann and other hamlets. The municipality borders with four neighboring communities - Flirsch, St. Anton am Arlberg, Kappl, Emperor.

History

In the Middle Ages, the village gained a certain importance because of its location on the east-west traffic route over the Arlberg Pass, also led here by mule into the Lech valley and towards the Engadin. It is first mentioned Pettneu the year 1300 as " Pudnew ", which is probably derived from " ponte novu " or " punt nou " ( new bridge ). The obtained up to 2005 new bridge came from the late 18th century and was an example of the formerly widely covered wooden bridges without iron connecting means. The bridge was swept away during a flood on 23 August 2005 by the floods of Rosanna.

On March 14, 1918, the South Tyrolean later politicians Alfons Benedikter was born in Pettneu.

Today, in addition to agriculture, tourism is economically important. Pettneu positioned itself as a family -friendly alternative to the nearby ski resort of St. Anton am Arlberg.

Ski resort

The ski resort with gondola, one chairlift, two T-bar lifts and 15 km of slopes was abandoned in 2011. There is a ski bus connection to the ski area in the neighboring village of St. Anton am Arlberg.
