Peyrelevade

Peyrelevade ( Peira Levada in Occitan ) is a commune with 816 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Corrèze, in the Limousin region. The municipality is a member of the Association of Municipalities Plateau de Gentioux. The inhabitants call themselves the Peyrelevadois (it).

Geography

The municipality is located in the Massif Central on the Plateau de Millevaches and thus also in the Regional Natural Park Millevaches en Limousin.

Tulle, prefecture of the department is located, about 70 kilometers south-west, Égletons about 40 kilometers southwest and Ussel about 35 kilometers southeast.

Neighboring communities of Peyrelevade are Gentioux - Pigerolles in the north, Féniers in the Northeast, Saint- Setiers in the east, Millevaches in the Southeast, Saint- Merd -les- Oussines in the south, southwest, and Tarnac in Faux-la -Montagne in the West.

The village lies on the right bank of the upper reaches of the Vienne.

The village is located about 35 kilometers northwest of the junction 23 of the A89 autoroute.

Attractions

  • The chapel Chapelle du Rat, a religious building from the 17th century, built on a hill in a natural rock formation. The building is classified as a monument historique since 1927. Not far from here there is a beautiful view over the Plateau de Gentioux.
  • The church of Saint -Pierre, a religious building from the 13th century.
  • Several monumental crosses from the 13th to the 16th century.
  • Two old bridges over the Vienne from the 17th and 19th centuries.
  • Remains of an old fortification from the 12th century.
