PFC Akademik Sofia

Akademik Sofia ( Bulgarian Академик София ) is a sports club from Bulgaria's capital Sofia. In football plays (season 2011 /12) in the B Grupa. The club was founded in 1947. The nickname of the club is "Students ".

The team won the Balkans Cup in 1974 and played in the 1975/76 season in the UEFA Cup and reached the second round there. The club even put two players from the 1974 World Cup, namely Ivan Dimitrov and Mladen Vasilev. After the 2007/ 08 season Akademia Sofia rose again from the A Grupa and played since second-rate.

23 May 2010 you could win the relegation play the runners-up of the B groups against PFK Nesebar 2-1 and qualify for the A Grupa. At the end of the 2010/11 season, however, was as tables - 15th the direct re- descent.

Currently the coach Samir Seliminski and the manager is being Atanas Ivanov. The club is sponsored by the Bench Mark Group.

Under the patronage of Akademik many other sports are offered. In badminton, the club from 1997 to 2009 was eight times the Bulgarian team champion.

The Hockey section of the club was founded in 1949 and participated until 1993, the game mode before it was merged with the hockey club CSKA Sofia HK. In 1995, the Section Hockey was founded again and merged in 1998 with parts of the HK Metalurg Pernik to Sofia Akademik - Metalurg. Since 2001, the team takes as Akademika Sofia and won the 2006 and 2007 national championship and the national cup competition.
