Pfeffernüsse

The German cuisine has at least three kinds of pepper nuts. In northern Germany they are a hemispherical - like gingerbread cookies. Their diameter is approximately six to eight inches. The german bakery knows the Pfeffernuss as protein biscuits. They are offered and eaten especially during the Advent season. In Saxony there are small gingerbread without casting.

Pepper is usually not included in them, the gingerbread dough in northern Germany, however, is spicy. As with Gingerbread, which are also called " gingerbread ", the name probably goes back to the Middle Ages, when the exotic spices were generally referred to as "pepper". The outside of the gingerbread is usually provided with a white frosting. In recent times, often finds the smooth underside with an extra chocolate coating.
