Phaenias of Eresus

Phainias of Eresus was an ancient Greek philosopher and a pupil of Aristotle. He lived in the 4th century BC The name is attested in inscriptions form Phainias in his homeland, and is considered authentic. In addition, also occurs in the form Phanias.

He came from Eresus, a town on the Aegean island of Lesbos, and was known by several historical writings. He authored by Diogenes Laertius also a work On the Socratic.

Plutarch quotes him several times in his Lives, among others in the Lives of Solon and Themistocles.
