Phanom Thuan District

Amphoe Phanom Thuan ( Thai: อำเภอ พนมทวน ) is a district ( Amphoe ) eastern part of the province ( province ) Kanchanaburi. The Kanchanaburi province to the west of Central Thailand on the border with Myanmar.

Geography

The neighboring districts are (from the south clockwise): Amphoe Tha Maka that, Tha Muang, Bo Phloi and Krachao Huai Kanchanaburi province and Amphoe U Thong Song Phi Nong and the province of Suphanburi.

History

The area around Phanom Thuan was already inhabited in prehistoric times. At the archaeological site of Ban Don Ta Phet many objects of a cemetery of the 4th century BC have been found that suggest a trade connection to India, Vietnam and the Philippines.

In the " Don Chedi Archaeological Site " took place in 1982 an excavation team of the Fine Arts Department as well as many human skeletons elephant bones and swords. It is believed, therefore, that here the famous battle between the Burmese Crown Prince and King Naresuan has occurred, which was attributed to the Amphoe Don Chedi, according to classical historiography. The district of Phanom Thuan was one of the first three districts of Kanchanaburi province. He was first called " Nuea " ( north ) because it consisted of the entire northern part of the province. When King Nang Klao (Rama III. ) In 1831, the center of Kanchanaburi moved and changed its size, the Nuea district was renamed Ban Thuan. It now consisted of the mountains and the flowing northward flow. In 1939 the name was changed in Phanom Thuan.

Management

The circle is divided into eight subdistricts (tambon ), divide further into 103 villages ( Muban ).

There are four small towns ( Tambon thesaban ):

  • Phanom Thuan ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล พนมทวน ) consists of parts of the tambon Phanom Thuan,
  • Talad Khet ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ตลาด เขต ) consists of parts of the tambon Rank Wai,
  • Nong Sarai ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล หนอง สาหร่าย ) consists of the whole tambon Nong Sarai,
  • Rank Wai ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ราง หวาย ) also consists of parts of the tambon Rank Wai,

In addition, there are six " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
