Pharnacid Dynasty

The Pharnakiden were an ancient noble family in the Persian empire of the Achaemenids in the 5th and 4th century BC.

The family itself forms a side branch of the Achaemenid Empire, derived from Pharnakes. He was a younger son of Arschama I., and brother of Hystaspes and thus an uncle of the later Great King Darius I, to whom he also served as Lord Chamberlain.

As a de facto hereditary provincial governors ( satraps ) the Pharnakiden practiced the Persian rule in Phrygia (now Anatolia ) and after the distribution thereof Hellespontine Phrygia / Kleinphrygien (now Northwest Turkey) from. Their residence was Daskyleion. Your province they lost 353 BC after several participations in revolts against the Great King. The last Pharnakiden were first opponent, then followers of Alexander the Great.

  • Susamithres and Magaios, uncle and brother of the Pharnabazos II, murderer of Alcibiades
  • Mithridates, son of Ariobarzanes
