Pharyngeal tonsil

The pharyngeal tonsil or tonsil pharyngica (pharyngeal ) - called in veterinary anatomy pharyngeal tonsil - is one of the tonsils ( tonsils ) and is located on the roof of the pharynx. It belongs to the lymphatic pharyngeal ring and serves the interception of the nose invading pathogens. Sensitively the mucosa of the pharyngeal tonsil on the Rami tonsillares ( Almond Branches ) of the glossopharyngeal nerve is supplied.

Diseases

The significant increase ( adenoids, Rachenmandelhyperplasie ) is popularly referred to as " growth " or " polyps " and can lead to comorbidities such as ear infections and hearing loss. In such cases, the pharyngeal tonsil from the otolaryngologist may be removed by adenoidectomy. The term " polyp " often leads to confusion with the roll-call occasionally occurring in adults inflammatory polyps in the sinuses or nose.
