Phase distortion synthesis

The Phase Distortion Synthesis ( PD synthesis) is an invented in the 1980s by the company Casio tone generating method as in synthesizers. She was among other things, Isao Tomita and Yukihiro Takahashi mitentwickelt.Das method worked with samples of only one period, which were stored on inexpensive hardware at the time. Order - according to former standards - to produce varied, vibrant sounds, the readout speed was within this period modulated (see drawing).

The procedure was intended as an alternative to FM synthesis Yamaha, but could never reach its popularity (although the operation was simpler and more transparent than in the FM synthesis many times ). As the prices of sample ROM decreased in musical instruments, synthesizers PD were displaced by Romplern.
