Phil Ferguson

Phillip Colgan " Phil" Ferguson ( born August 15, 1903 in Wellington, Sumner County, Kansas; † August 8, 1978 in Tijuana, Mexico ) was an American politician. Between 1935 and 1941 he represented the eighth election district of the state of Oklahoma in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Phil Ferguson attended the common schools and then studied until 1926 at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. After moving to Oklahoma, he settled on a ranch near Woodward. There he worked on agricultural matters. Among other things, he began to raise cattle.

Politically, Ferguson was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1934 he was in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he Ernest Marland replaced on 3 January 1935. After he was confirmed in each case in this office in the years 1936 and 1938, he was able to complete a total of three parliamentary terms in Congress until January 3, 1941. In 1940 he was defeated by Republican Ross Rizley.

After retiring from Congress Ferguson initially worked again in agriculture. During World War II he served from 1942 to 1944 as a Major in the United States Marine Corps. In 1944 he applied unsuccessfully for a return to Congress; In 1958 he was a candidate for a temporary change to the Republicans also unsuccessfully for the office of Governor of Oklahoma. He subsequently worked as a rancher and was a director of the Bank of Woodward.
