Philibert de Naillac

Fra ' Philibert de Naillac, also Philibertus Naillacensis (* in Bridiers, † June 1421 ) was on May 6, 1396 to his death in the 34th Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes.

He was born probably at Castle Bridiers in the Limousin region. His father Périchon of Naillac was Viscount of Bridiers. He was Grand Prior of Aquitaine in the French tongue.

He had converted the fortifications of Rhodes, in particular, a tower at the trade port, which is named after him.

1396 he took part with the Order and later Emperor Sigismund at the Battle of Nicopolis.

1402 the Knights lost their possessions on the mainland of Asia Minor, as Tamerlane stormed their city of Smyrna.

1409 he took part in the Council of Pisa, and then stayed on in Europe. He did not return until 1419 to Rhodes back.
