Philip Allen, Baron Allen of Abbeydale

Philip Allen, Baron Allen of Abbeydale GCB (* July 8, 1912, † 27 November 2007) was a British civil servant and peer.

Career

Allen was a student at the "King Edward VII School " in Sheffield and at Queens ' College, Cambridge. He joined in 1934 in the service of the Home Office a. 1955 to 1960 he was Deputy Secretary to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government. In 1963 he became the successor to Burke Trend as Second Permanent Secretary ( Second Permanent Secretary ) of the Treasury (HM Treasury) and was responsible for the civil service until 1966. 1966 to 1972 he was Permanent Secretary at the Home Office.

Allen was raised in 1976 as Baron Allen of Abbeydale, of the City of Sheffield, for Life Peer. In the House of Lords he was sitting as Cross Bencher. From 1973 to 1978 he was a member of the Pearson Commission.
