Philip Hauser

Philip Morris Hauser ( * September 27, 1909, † December 13, 1994 in Chicago) was an American sociologist and 58th president of the American Sociological Association. He wrote groundbreaking contributions to population studies and urban sociology.

Hauser spent his whole academic life at the former stronghold of the North American sociology, University of Chicago. There he laid aside his Bachelor 1929 Exam and 1933, his master's exam. In 1938 he became a Ph.D. doctorate. After leading activities at the U.S. Census Bureau in 1947 he became a professor in Chicago, a position he held until his retirement. He also served from 1947 to 1979 director and founder of the Population Research Center at the University of Chicago.

Hauser officiated in 1968 as president of the American Sociological Association. At times, he was also president of the American Statistical Association and the Population Association of America.
