Philip I of Piedmont

Philip I, known as Philip of Savoy (French Philippe de Savoie, it Filippo di Savoia - ACAIA, * 1278; . † September 25, 1334 ), was from 1282 Lord of Piedmont and 1301-1307 Prince of Achaia. He was the son of Thomas III. Piedmont and Guyonne de Chalon.

Philip married on February 12, 1301 in Rome Isabelle de Villehardouin, Princess of Achaia, and was by this marriage even to the prince. Philip now operational reclaiming Laconia from Byzantium, but his authoritarian character brought him quickly into conflict with the nobility of the country. After he had tried to prevail against the barons, he had to give in 1304 and accept a parliament. 1306 were called to Naples, where Philip was accused of not sufficiently involved in a military campaign of Charles against the Despotate of Epirus Philip and Isabelle; Isabella, in turn, was accused of having not obtained the required consent of Charles II of Naples for her third marriage. On May 5, 1306 the couple Achaia was taken away and given to Charles's son Philip I of Taranto. Philip of Piedmont gave his claim to Achaia on 11 May 1307 and received the county Alba ( Piedmont). Isabelle left him and fled to Hainault, the home of her second husband, from where they continue to operate their claims.

In the year 1312 ( Isabelle had died earlier this year ), married Philip Catherine de la Tour du Pin († 1337), daughter of Humbert I., Dauphin of Viennois, and Anne de Bourgogne. Children from this marriage were:
