The Philip II Arena ( Macedonian: Арена Филип II, Arena Filip II) is the national stadium in Macedonia's capital Skopje.

History

The stadium was opened in 1947 until February 2009 the name Градски стадион Скопје, Gradski stadion Skopje ( German: Municipal Stadium Skopje). The hotel's name to Philip II, king of Macedon ( 359-336 BC) and the father of Alexander the Great, back. In addition to club teams Vardar Skopje and Rabotnički Skopje, the Macedonian national football team wears their home games at the Philip II Arena. The stadium also serves as a concert venue.

Conversion and extension

Since 2008, the sports facility was renovated and expanded. On August 2, 2009, new North Stand with the international match against Spain Macedonia (2:3) were approved for use and inaugurated on August 12. At this time the system took 25,000 spectators. Among the additional 10,000 seats, the new visitors rank offers 434 VIP seats and 248 jobs for journalists. The plastic seats in the stands are decorated in the colors of the national flag in red and yellow. On April 24, 2011, for approximately 900 million denars ( approximately € 14.7 million ) was dedicated completely renovated stadium. The first game in the finished arena was the qualifier for the 2012 European Football Championship 4 June 2011 against Ireland.
