Philip III of Navarre

Philip III. of Navarre, also known as Philip of Évreux (* 1301, † September 16, 1343 in Jerez de la Frontera) was the younger son of Ludwig Count of Évreux ( 1276-1319 ) and Margaret of Artois ( 1285-1311 ), thus a grandson of King Philip III. of France.

He inherited from his father in 1319, the county Évreux, got in 1325 the county Longueville and ten years later, as the husband of Queen Joan II of Navarre King of Navarre ( de jure uxoris ). He had extensive fiefs both in northern France as well as in Navarre and was due to this property, and his family relationships from the highest influence in both countries.

When he took part in the Reconquista in 1343, he was mortally wounded.

Philip and Jane had eight children:

  • Johanna (* 1338, † 1387 ), nun at Longchamp.
