Philip Kitcher

Philip Kitcher ( born February 20, 1947 in London ) is a British philosopher of science.

Kitcher grew up in Eastbourne, Sussex. He studied at Cambridge and moved to Princeton later. He then taught at Vassar College, the University of Vermont, the University of Minnesota, the University of California, San Diego and Columbia University.

First, he was concerned with the philosophy of mathematics, later in biology. One focus was most recently the study of the evolution of altruism and morality, and of the conflict between science and religion.
