Philipp von Cobenzl

Philipp Graf von Cobenzel (also: Johann Philipp Graf Cobenzel ) ( born May 28, 1741 Ljubljana, † August 30, 1810 in Vienna ) was an Austrian statesman.

Life

( † 1797 in Gorizia * 1716 in Ljubljana ) and his 1739 he wedded wife Maria Anna Benigna, Countess of Mont Richier ( 1720-1793 ) Johann Philipp was the first of five children of the Imperial and Royal Chamberlain Guidobaldo ( Guido ) Count Cobenzel; 1743 following his brother Johann Ludwig Carl Graf Cobenzel was provost in Eichstätt. He grew up on his father's castle of Ljubljana (now Predjama ).

Philipp Graf Cobenzel accompanied together with the Count Colloredo- Mels Joseph the Emperor Joseph II on his trip to France from April 1 to August 2 1777. 1776, he earned a terrain on the mountain trip and had rebuilt the existing Jesuit houses there to a country house. Was praised by contemporaries of the scale of Cobenzel English-style garden with numerous wooden follies. In 1809, parts of the plant were destroyed by the French army. In the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century, the former cobenzlsche country house was converted into a castle. A later building is now known as Castle Cobenzel.

Count Johann Philipp von Cobenzel was the last of his race. It is located on the St. Marx Cemetery buried.

His cousin Johann Ludwig Graf Cobenzel was ambassador at various European courts and 1801-1805 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Austrian hereditary lands.

Honor

In 1792 he became a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece.

In 1894 in Vienna Dobling ( 19th district ) was named the Cobenzlgasse after him.
