Philippe Beck

Philippe Beck ( * April 21, 1963 in Strasbourg ) is a French writer, poet and philosopher. Philippe Beck lives in Paris and teaches as a professor at the University of Nantes.

Life and works

1994 Philippe Beck received his Doctor of Philosophy at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris under the direction of Jacques Derrida. Since 1995 he is a professor of philosophy at the University of Nantes where she teaches in the following areas: aesthetics ( particularly in relation to Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel's Aesthetics and Art), poetics, history of philosophy (Plato, Augustine), Political Philosophy and the entanglement of philosophy and literature.

In addition to teaching Philippe Beck regularly attends literary events as well as at scientific conferences and lectures at universities and cultural institutions around the world, including: Cambridge Conference of Contemporary Poetry, Trinity College, the Alliance Française de Valparaiso ( Chile), the Literary Congress in Singapore at the invitation of the French consulate, Barnard College, New York, Buffalo University, University of Massachusetts, University of Colorado at Denver, University of Osnabrück and the University of Quebec in Montreal. He has read his poetry and taught at numerous poetry festivals in cities like Berlin, Amsterdam, Rome, Montreal, Shanghai, Beijing and Istanbul.
