Philippe de Noailles

Philippe, vicomte de Noailles, duc de Mouchy (* December 27, 1715 in Paris, † June 27, 1794 ibid ) was Marshal of France and the founder of the younger branch Noailles - Mouchy.

He was the son of Marshal Adrien Maurice de Noailles and the younger brother of Marshal Louis de Noailles. He was, after he had in the Battle of Fontenoy and in several campaigns in Germany, including the Battle of Minden, fought March 30, 1775, the same day as his brother, the marshal's baton.

Philippe was at court a long time in great favor. His wife, Anne -Claude -Louise d' Arpajon ( 1729-94 ), was first lady of honor to Queen Marie Antoinette, who gave her the nickname of Madame Etiquette.

His two sons were Philippe -Louis -Marc -Antoine de Noailles, prince de Poix and Louis -Marie, vicomte de Noailles. Both were members of the Constituent Assembly.

Philippe de Noailles died together with his wife, the heiress of the house Arpajon, on 27 June 1794 the guillotine, one month before the fall of Robespierre and the end of the reign of terror.
