Philippe Morillon

Philippe Morillon ( born October 24, 1935 in Casablanca, Morocco ) is a French five-star Army General and Member of the European Parliament. He led the list of UDF in western France for the electoral district of Brittany, Pays de la Loire, Poitou -Charentes and heard in the European Parliament for the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe.

Morillon 1956 graduated from the military academy Saint- Cyr. In 1964 he attended the School of Electrical Engineering and 1974, the Army Staff College.

Between 1984 and 1986 he was a military expert at the National Assembly.

Between 1992 and 1993, Morillon, commander of the armed forces of the United Nations in Bosnia, UNPROFOR. He traveled in March 1993 in the predominantly inhabited by Bosnian Muslims, besieged by Serbs ostbosnische Srebrenica enclave, hoisted there the blue UN flag and declared the city symbolically to the UN safe area (see also: Srebrenica massacre ).

Morillon has, in spite of these events also expressed very negative to the violations of the Geneva Conventions by the Bosnian army under the command of Naser Oric. Morillon reported, among other things, of a situation in which Bosnian soldiers on the roof of a hospital in Sarajevo Serb positions have shelled with mortars to provoke Serb counter- fire. This should draw the attention of the then resident at the hospital, international press on the Serbian soldiers.

Between 1994 and 1996, Morillon was commander of the Rapid Reaction Force (FAR ) of the French Army.

Between 1999 and 2009, Morillon was a member of the European Parliament. In July 2004, he was Chairman of the Committee on Fisheries of the European Parliament.

Morillon is chairman of the association " L' envol pour les enfants européens ".
