Philippe Ouédraogo (cardinal)

Cardinal Philippe Ouedraogo (born 25 January 1945 Konéan, Burkina Faso) is Archbishop of Ouagadougou.

Life

Philippe Ouedraogo received on 14 July 1973, the sacrament of Holy Orders for the Diocese of Kaya. From 1973 to 1978 he was vicar of the local cathedral, before he went to Rome to continue his studies there. 1983 Ouedraogo returned back to Kaya. From 1989 to 1994 he was Vicar General of the Diocese of Kaya.

On July 5, 1996, Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of Ouahigouya. The Archbishop of Ouagadougou, Jean -Marie Compaoré Untaani, donated to him on 23 November of the same year the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Limoges, Léon Soulier, and the Bishop Emeritus of Kaya, Constantin Guirma. From 2001 to 2007 he was president of the Bishops' Conferences of Burkina Faso and Niger. On 13 May 2009 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. Archbishop of Ouagadougou. The inauguration took place on 13 June of the same year.

In solemn consistory of February 22, 2014 Pope Francis took him a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria Consolatrice al Tiburtino to the College of Cardinals.
