Philips van der Aa

Philips van der Aa (* in Mechelen; † after 1586) was a oranischer lawyer and statesman during the struggle for independence of the Netherlands during the Eighty Years' War.

Van der Aa 1564 was mayor of Mechelen. After the conquest of the city by the Duke of Alba he was banished. He returned to the side of William of Orange, in which he was in great confidence back.

In 1572 he seized by stratagem again the control of the city. 1573 ranked him William of Orange as a consultant to the court of Dietrich Sonoy in 1575 and appointed him commander in Gorcum.
