Philoxenos Yuhanon Dolabani

Mor Philoxenus Yuhanon Dolobani (* 1885 in Mardin, † 1969) was a Syrian Orthodox Metropolitan of Mardin and learned author.

Life

He became a monk at the monastery in 1908 Zafaran near Mardin, worked as a teacher in convent schools and the orphanage of Adana. In 1925/26 he lived in St. Mark's Monastery in Jerusalem. In 1947 the diocese of Mardin was founded and Dolabani as Metropolitan. He wrote, published and translated numerous works in Syriac, Arabic and Turkish. Some things are so far unpublished.

As a pastor he tried out for the time since the First World War, only a few and isolated Christians in eastern Turkey, sent monks and deacons who, especially Syriac Orthodox and Armenians on wide paths and often secretly brought them evangelization and baptism. For the übergesiedelten to Istanbul Syriac Orthodox Christians, who understood no more Syrian, he created a Turkish transmission of the liturgy texts. He was buried in his home monastery.
