Phoebe Snow

Phoebe Snow, Phoebe Ann actually leaves ( born July 17, 1950 or even 1952 in New York City, † April 26, 2011 in Edison, New Jersey) was an American singer and composer.

Career

He grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey, Phoebe Snow had also learned very early guitar lessons and as a teenager to play the piano. Like so many singer-songwriter, she moved since about 1970 by New York clubs and bars, sang her self-composed songs while accompanying herself on her Martin guitar. During an appearance at the Bitter End in Greenwich Village discovered a talent scout of the small Shelter label, the singer with the alto voice, which then got a contract from the MCA belonging to this period company. Direct their first LP ( Phoebe Snow, released in July 1974) was a commercial success ( # 4 on the LP charts ), winner of gold and contained with the withdrawal Poetry Man also a top five hit in the Billboard pop single charts.

Her compositions were strongly influenced by jazz, and even on their first album had musicians such as Bob James, Zoot Sims, Dave Mason, Hugh McDonald, the bassist Chuck Delmonico, harpist Margaret Ross, electric guitarist Steve Burgh and drummer Steve Mosley as their studio band; as backing vocalists in Sam Cooke's Good Times - one of only two foreign compositions on this LP - acted the Persuasions. On Easy Street, the B- side of their first 45 rpm disc Harpo 's Blues, she was accompanied by Stan Getz and Teddy Wilson, two legendary jazz instrumentalists. Their first recordings she has already been published by her stage name, which goes back to a popular fictional character who enlisted at the beginning of the 20th century, with little poems on posters for Lackawanna Railroad. Exactly when Phoebe leaves adopted this stage name, is not known.

They soon moved to Columbia, toured with Paul Simon in 1975, among other things by the United States and took with him the song Gone at Last on; this was also in the charts ( at # 23) as their one year later released second LP Second Childhood, which reached number 13 and went gold again. It also looks like Snow ( also 1976) brought it even into the top 30, while the decline in sales of their next two LPs Never Letting Go (1977) and Against the Grain (1978 ) seemed to indicate an end of their acceptance by the plate buyers. In concerts, the singer also in the late 1970s but was always their audience. The artist 1979 also the first time a chart listing with the single Every Night succeeded in Great Britain ( 37).
