The PHOENIX Pharma GmbH & Co KG, headquartered in Mannheim is the largest pharmaceutical wholesaler in Germany. The entire Phoenix group claims to be the largest pharmaceutical wholesaler in Europe. The company belongs to the Merckle group of companies. Chairman of the Board is Oliver Windholz.

History

The early 1990s, Adolf Merckle bought amplified in a regional pharmaceutical wholesalers. In October 1994 he joined F. Reichelt AG (Hamburg), Otto Stumpf GmbH (Berlin), Ferd. Schulze GmbH ( Mannheim, Germany), Otto Stumpf AG ( Nuremberg) and Hageda AG ( Cologne) together for Phoenix AG. The individual pharmaceutical companies are partly still considered Verpachtungs and finance companies of the Merckle family.

Merckle appointed the business lawyer Bernd Scheifele Chairman. With sales of 3.2 billion euros and 30 percent market share, Phoenix became an instant market leader in Germany. Through numerous acquisitions, the company grew rapidly to the current position of the market leader in many European countries.
